Current Favourites: Whole, Nutritious Food Products

1. One Degree Brown Rice Cacao Crips

This cereal stays on my list for my go to food products. The taste, texture, ingredients, calories, are SO on point.  It has all the great health benefits from the sprouted brown rice together with cacao and low-glycemic coconut palm sugar. I sometimes use it as a granola and top one portion of it on my yogurt bowls, at the bottom of my smoothies, or just eat it as protein cereal with cold cashew milk & vanilla protein powder.

Here is a vegan protein powder that DOESN’T taste like chalk, artificial or hard to digest. It’s fermented, tastes like natural, light vanilla. It tastes amazing in shakes, overnight oats, smoothies, pancakes, waffles, you name it. Theres 22g grams of protein per scoop, 110 calories and made with whole, natural ingredients Buy it here:

3. Ezekiel - Genesis bread

The bread is made using sprouted whole grains, legumes & sometimes seeds. It contains 0 sugar, 0 preservatives and 0 artificial ingredients, unlike most other breads. Compared to breads that don't contain sprouted grains, Ezekiel bread has more protein, fiber, and absorbable vitamins & minerals.

4. Kirkland Creamy almond butter

This is by far my favourite natural almond butter. Its so smooth & creamy. By only using half a tablespoon it spreads EVERYWHERE. I hate nut butters that are so thick you need 2 tablespoons to spread it evenly! I also love the fact that it only has one ingredient (dry roasted almonds) and tastes amazing. Compared to other nut butters, it really isn’t expensive! It comes in a pack of 2 and I buy it at Costco in bulk.

5. Traditional tonic collagen

I love collagen peptides, especially by the brand TONIC. Collagen peptides are short chain amino acids naturally derived from pasture-raised, grass-fed collagen protein. Collagen peptides contain the same amino acids as gelatin which are identical to the protein found in skin, nails, hair, bones, cartilage, and joints. I love adding this beautifying powder (has no taste and dissolves in anything) to my smoothies, oats, chia pudding, homemade fudge & hot chocolate! 6. Simply protein bar

I really enjoy this bar because of its clean ingredients, its low sugar content (1g), the high protein (15g) , high fiber, and low calories (150)

The bar is light and crunchy and will fill you up without weighing you down. I keep this bar nearby when I’m getting on a plane, want something sweet, as an afternoon snack, a post workout, or even a pre-workout! I have them about 4 times a week! My favourite flavours are peanut butter-chocolate & raspberry cacao.

7. Zevia- Cola flavour

When I was younger, when my family would have a picnic, there would always be a Fanta, Diet coke or some sort of fizzy drink around. I’d never have my own, but I’d always take a cup and pour myself some a couple sips when I’d have my sandwich. When I tried zevia (no artificial sweeteners, flavours, or colours) this year, it reminded me of that complete lunch feeling. I love sipping on of these when I have a salad or wrap for lunch.

8. Sugar free raspberry jam

When I was younger, I wasn’t the BIGGEST fan of PB & J. It’s only until one of my clients told me (a couple months ago) that she was addicted to almond butter and jam on rice cakes and once she started, she couldn’t stop. Probably not the smartest idea but I decided to try it for myself to see what the fuss was about. It may seem simple, but let me tell you… the combination is unreal. So, what I do is replace your typical high sugar jam with sugar free jelly, use plain dry roasted almond butter and top that on 3-4 thin rice cakes.

9. The kale factory - Broccoli buds

Everyone laughs at me when I eat these because 1. Dehydrated broccoli can taste good? 2.You need to be careful when chewing because the stems are really hard & 3. broccoli for $13? Funny enough, it’s actually one of my favourite snacks that I treat myself to! Besides the stem, it tastes really good and the nutritional facts are unreal. For a whole pack its about 78 calories and since its full of fiber, its filling. I recommend the salt & vinegar flavour (it tastes cheesy and not actually like salt and vinegar I promise)

 10. Nunaturals vanilla stevia drops

This is what I use to sweeten my coffee. It has a sweet vanilla flavour with no weird aftertaste. I also use it in my smoothies to sweeten it more when I don’t feel like adding more banana.

11. RXBAR’s

This is another one of my favourite bars and the chocolate sea salt is my favourite flavour. I love how transparent the (first four lol) ingredients are but I do find it a bit shady how they don’t list the ingredients for the chocolate. However, I trust the company and it doesn't seem to bother me!

12. Suzie’s whole grain thin rice cakes

I love these rice cakes because instead of having 1 huge thick one, you can get three for the same calories. I like the spelt & flaxseed type, I find they have the most taste and crunch. I love topping them with almond butter and jelly in the afternoon, when I’m feeling sweet or for pre workout fuel.

13. Califia Farm’s unsweetened vanilla almond milk

I always buy unsweetened vanilla or cashew milk. This califia farms just happens to be the best tasting one I’ve had so far! I don’t always buy this one because I like buying in bulk at Costco since I go through SO much.

14. Puffins cereal

Puffins are made by Barbara's Bakery that makes all natural cereal and bars. It's crunchy, dairy- and wheat-free, and lightly sweetened, (5g of sugar for a full portion) and relatively high in fiber…I don't have a full bowl, but once in a while I like to treat myself and top it on my thick smoothies! I say “treat myself” because I hardly ever eat any refined sugar (its cane), but when its such a small amount, in a cereal I love then I’ll go for it and do not deprive myself.

 15. Cacao nibs

Cacao nibs are dried and fermented bits of cacao beans. They have a deep chocolate flavour which is slightly bitter and nutty. Recently, I’ve been loving to add cacao nibs to my sweet smoothies because it adds texture and is full of antioxidants (protect the body from ageing and disease caused by free radicals) ! It also adds crunch and flavour to my yogurt bowls and when I have banana and almond butter I like to sprinkle some with some hemp hearts.

 16. Bee pollen

Bee pollen is actually food from the new born bee. It's super healthy as it's considered one of nature's most completely nourishing foods for humans. It contains almost all nutrients required for our bodies. It's rich in minerals, protein, fatty acids, reduces inflammation, stimulates the immune system, lower cholesterol levels, etc.... Taste? It's mildly sweet and has a bit of a floral taste. I always add about 2 tsp to my smoothies when they are berry flavoured.

 17. Chlorophyll

The superfood, chlorophyll is a green pigment found in plants. I buy it in liquid form and add about 3-5 drops in my green smoothies and glasses of water when I'm home (it's tasteless). The benefits are insane: it helps fight cancer, improves liver detoxification, improves digestion, is an antioxidant, and has anti cancer effects.

18. Maca

Maca, the superfood & adaptogen is a root that can be taken in powder form. It is very popular right now because of its powerful benefits: It helps balance hormones, boosts immune system, increases energy, improves sex drive, helps with memory loss, focus, boosts antioxidants, improves mood, and the list goes on... Maca is very easy to incorporate in your every day diet because all you need is a tsp and the taste is mild. I add it to all my smoothies, stir it in my oatmeal or blend it in hot drinks.

19. GTS Kombucha

Love me some booch. I love drinking kombucha because it aids my digestion and gut health. Because its naturally fermented with living bacteria and yeast, it makes it a probiotic = healthy immune system. I either like having about 1/2 around 5:30pm when dinner is soon and I don't want to spoil my appetite but I want something that will hold me till then or when split one when I go on a lunch date with my sister or friend. My favourite flavours are gingerberry & trilogy. For cheaper, you can buy it in bulk at Costco in the flavour gingerade.

20. Large flake oats

These are the oats I always use. The fall & winter, is when I usually have a hot bowl of classic porridge to keep me warm. In the summer and spring, I have them refrigerated overnight and eat them cold in the morning. Unlike other refined carbs, oats digest slowly, are packed with fiber and have little impact on your blood sugar.
